Bruce D. McKee directs
the firm's nonprofit and
tax-exempt organizations
practice, representing local, national, and
international
organizations, including charities, churches, and schools.
The main portion of his practice consists of serving in the role of
outside general legal counsel to various exempt organizations,
including day-to-day legal
guidance to those organizations and their officers and directors,
providing general operational advice, always bringing to bear
the limitations imposed on exempt organizations under the Internal
Revenue Code. In
addition, he assists those clients with the negotiation and
drafting of
contracts and leases, of employment
and severance agreements, and of intellectual property
agreements.

The
remainder of his
practice consists of assisting clients with the creation of tax-exempt
organizations. This begins with initial advice regarding
whether
a tax-exempt organization is the desired vehicle for advancing the
client's charitable purposes. This is followed up by creating
a
nonprofit corporation at the state level. Finally, this is
completed by preparing and filing a Form 1023
application for
recognition of exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. |
Bruce is a 2001 graduate of the Law School at the
University of Chicago and is admitted to the Illinois bar as well as
the Georgia bar. Prior to his move to Georgia, he practiced
in the tax department at Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman in Chicago.
Since his practice is based in the federal tax-exemption law,
he represents clients headquartered in various locations around the
country, although he practices out of the metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia
area.
Bruce resides in Canton, Georgia, with his wife,
Marsel, and
their two children. He enjoys spending time with his family,
participating in his church
(he has served as a deacon and as a Sunday School teacher), and tending
his backyard vegetable garden.
